Candle Burning Safety Tips
-
Always trim candle wicks to about 1/4 inch before lighting to prevent excessive smoke and uneven burning.
-
Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from curtains, papers, or any other flammable materials.
-
Never leave burning candles unattended. Make sure to extinguish candles before leaving the room or going to bed.
-
Place candles out of reach of pets and children to avoid accidental burns or knockovers.
-
Avoid placing candles in drafty areas as it can cause uneven burning and increase the risk of accidents. Drafts can also blow curtains into the flame.
-
Avoid burning candles all the way to the bottom. Extinguish the flame when about 1/2 inch of wax remains to prevent heat damage to surfaces.
-
Keep candles at least 3 inches apart to prevent them from melting one another and causing uneven burning.
-
Refrain from overcrowding a space with too many candles, as it can create a fire hazard and increase the risk of accidents.
-
Instead of blowing out candles, use a candle lid that is included or a snuffer to extinguish the flame. This minimizes smoke and prevents hot wax from splattering.
-
When using scented candles, be cautious with fragrance oils. Some may be sensitive to certain scents, and overuse can cause irritation.
-
Have a fire extinguisher and a working smoke detector nearby. Know how to respond to a candle-related fire, and have an emergency plan in place.
